Let’s examine more of Jenny’s advice:
- Find out who you might know at each of your target organizations.
First, reach out to your own email database. Create groups of 10. In your email, describe the type job you are looking for; identify your target businesses; ask who they might know at these organizations; if there is a connection, ask if they will be willing to speak to the decision-makers and arrange an informational interview. Follow up with a phone call.
Second, bone up on your LinkedIn process. Begin with your first level contacts. Move on to your second level contacts, mention your first level contact, and ask if they might be willing to introduce you to someone in their career orbit.
Third, if nothing arises as a result of your efforts in the first two steps, target the alumni at your college or university. They are often willing to help you.
