The Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Pennsylvania will launch an exciting career training program for young people ages 16-24 in the Mon Valley. As a key element in its Career Works plan, Boys & Girls Clubs cultivated relationships with companies to deliver training programs featuring science, technology, engineering and manufacturing. It’s anticipated the program will start in October. A second Career Works site is planned for Lawrenceville.
To date, the initiative has raised $890,000 through grants and donations from businesses, foundations, and the state. This reflects broad support for the program.
The program is being offered at McKeesport’s Tube City for Business and Innovation. Tube City is one of several organizations housed in a former newspaper publishing building, last owned and donated to the city by Trib Total Media.
As with all of its after-school programs, Boys & Girls charges $40 per month for its services. However, donors will provide scholarships which will cover 100 percent of fees.
