Focus Your Energy on Trying New Approaches

June 4, 2012 Leave a Comment Written by Neal Griebling

Katie Filicky is a multi-talented free spirit who walks her own path. I’ve known her for about two years and have been struck by her courage in holding  fast to her values. During the time I have known her, she has traveled throughout the United States taking on work where she could find it, living with dear friends, and embracing new experiences. I never doubted she would find the right position…for now. Who knows what the future will bring? I only know the possibilities are unlimited. Check out Katie’s story.

Landing a great job for me was a process. It took about two years of reflecting with Neal and experimenting in different fields to conceptualize what type of position and company would be a great fit for me. Being honest with myself and having realistic expectations helped me narrow down my ambitious and wild imagination.

When I found myself feeling discourage in the dire job market, which happened frequently, I focused that energy on trying new approaches—attending diverse in-person networking events, researching company profiles, sending emails to contacts, dropping resumes off at local businesses, reading articles in my field.

Once I knew precisely what I was looking for and wanted, everything happened really fast.  It only took a few weeks of in-person networking and online searching to find a company of my choice with an open position that I truly felt that I can perform well and enjoy. I hope this helps you. Best of luck on your search!
