I recently had coffee with a dear friend. She’s bright, creative with proven skills, a quick study. She would make a great addition to any company. She’s had a number of positions but, sooner or later, she has been let go by most employers.
The problem? She manages to piss off her direct reports and fellow workers. She is very idealistic and never fails to point out the deficiencies within the organization and points out where things can be improved. It’s not so much what she says is how she says it. Her words are construed as criticism.
